beet raspberry smoothie

A smoothie with a super energizing taste and colour; nothing like a bright pink smoothie to start your day off right.  Raw beets, cranberries, and raspberries give this smoothie its vivid colour.

The addition of beets give a slightly earthy taste, with a sweet citrus undertone from the raspberries and orange.  A source of fat in this smoothie comes from the ground flaxseeds, which are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, a nutrient that protects against inflammation.

Word of warning with this smoothie: do NOT get any on your clothing.  Beet juice is not forgiving.


Yields: 2 servings


  • 1 beet, peeled and chopped
  • 1 large orange, peeled
  • 1 ripe banana, frozen or fresh
  • 2/3 cup frozen raspberries
  • 2/3 cup frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 3/4 – 1 cup water


1. Place all the ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.  Adjust the amount of water to desired consistency.
